Greetings RISD Alumni,
Welcome to our new RISD Alumni Association monthly newsletter. We will bring you news and stories about what’s happening on campus, information about new programs and opportunities to engage with RISD, updates about notable work from our alumni, students and faculty—and more. We are here to help you stay connected.
Strong connections can lead to powerful collective action, and the RISD community has already shown how it can come together. For example, the coronavirus pandemic has impacted all of us, and RISD has responded: alumni have shared stories of their insights and creativity; faculty and students came together for a weeklong symposium on planning for a post-pandemic world; and President Somerson has been working diligently with college faculty and leadership all summer on RISD’s plans for fall instruction.
The desire for community among our alumni is not limited to crisis response. We have connected with each other by forming new regional clubs in Pittsburgh, Minnesota, New Hampshire, Michigan, Silicon Valley, Connecticut, New Jersey and Cleveland. Alumni have also formed new affinity groups for social impact, fashion and apparel and zero waste, among others, where they can share experiences, network and expand their knowledge.
All of these connections will only become more important in the days ahead. RISD continues to grapple with profound social, economic and environmental changes. There are, and will continue to be, hard choices to make about the future of the institution we cherish. Our plan is to keep you informed and help you discover ways you can engage with RISD and each other as we move ahead.
Sincerely,
Donald Choi BArch 82 P 07 President RISD Alumni Association
P.S. In an upcoming issue we’ll share more details about reunion weekend, now scheduled to coincide with Commencement 2021. Meanwhile, remember that if your graduation year ends in a 0, 5, 1 or 6, you should start to round up your classmates now!
