I was excited to read this week about the new Houghton P. Metcalf Professorship in Sustainability at RISD. Through an act of inspired generosity, the Metcalf family has provided the college with the resources to have a real impact on a subject all of us take very seriously.
I was struck by the notion that the alumni community is nearly unanimous in its desire to connect with RISD on the topics of sustainability and climate change—and that we share these values with current RISD students, almost all of whom consider sustainability to be a national priority. Great things can happen when so many creative minds are focused on the same problem. There is brightness and hope in so strong an alignment.
Keep this in mind as you think about your plans for March 22—Founders Day. Check in with your local clubs and affinity groups to see how you can contribute to what RISD means in the world.
