Dear ,
I don’t want to sell RISD’s alumni short, but students today are impressively engaged with the world. When I was a student, for example, I worked assiduously on developing my own skills as an architect. I thought of RISD as a place that could help me get better at what I wanted to learn.
These days, RISD students are at least as interested in what RISD is doing for other people and members of the community. Whether they are debating the future of Rosa Parks’ former home, doing graphic design that is “conducive to the changing world around us,” or tutoring high school students through Project Open Door, today’s RISD students embody the spirit of service—the same spirit we are celebrating this month, and especially on March 22, Founders Day.
As President Somerson notes in her kickoff to this year’s celebration, “Founders Day makes all of us proud to be a part of RISD.” I hope that all of you will be as inspired by the example of today’s students as I am.
Sincerely,
Donald Choi BArch 82 P 07 President RISD Alumni Association
